Building the right rolling stock for maintenance is just as important as building the right depot for effective operations. This consideration ensures that operators can adapt quickly and safely to the environment, as well as ensure external depot factors also meet the design change. This presentation will discuss synergies with depot upgrades to support new, maintainable rolling stock

• Specifying and building a maintenance friendly rolling stock to yield ongoing operating efficiencies
• Designing contract mechanisms, such as maintenance demos, that support the outcome
• Understanding and adapting to external factors, such as measuring track forces, adapting bogie designs accordingly, that impact rolling stock service life

Building safety into the overall design of the depot ensures that safety improvements are there before accidents happen. This expert speaker panel will discuss harnessing safe work practices and how developers are required to put more effort into establishing solutions in the planning stage rather than once the project is completed.

Standards of maintenance operations can be different throughout each depot, influenced either by the upgrades and modernisation of the depot or the practices established by maintenance staff. Determining the efficiency and productivity of a particular depot can be difficult to conclude without a consistent standard in place across all facilities. This session will look at how to restore consistency in performance and technological improvements to engage staff and standardise operations across all depots.

• Instigating management practices to define and assess the current standards for further development into the desired state of where operation and workplace environment standards should sit
• Understanding how to effectively give ownership and engage staff to acquire strengths and skills to adjust to changes in depot equipment and environment
• Strengthening relationships and link between contractors, project managers and maintenance team to develop consistency and agreement in equipment upgrading and utilisation

Solutions clinics are designed to give participants strategies and tools to deal with their most pressing challenges.

The room will split into tables, where each table member will share their biggest challenge, before collectively deciding which issue to investigate in more detail.

The table will then elect a facilitator/note taker who will record the topic being explored and the ideas of the table. After 40 minutes of discussion, the facilitator of each table will then report back to the rest of the audience their problem and potential solutions.
